Meghalaya is a state in North East India. The word "Meghalaya” means the “Abode of Clouds” in Sanskrit. It is a beautiful Hill station. The capital, Shillong also known as the "Scotland of the East". Meghalaya is full of richness of nature. Colorful flowers,water falls, pine trees are just amazing.
Earlier it was a part of Assam, but on 21 January 1972, the districts of Khasi, Garo and Jaintia hills became the new state of Meghalaya. Meghalaya is famous for its coal mining. Most of the peoples are connected with this business. Meghalaya is predominantly an agrarian economy. The important crops of the state are potato, rice, maize, pineapple, banana etc. Capital Shillong is a beautiful hill station with number of falls in and around. The Shillong peak is highest in the state and is good for trekking. There are parks, zoo, lake which also increase the beauty of Shillong.

October to March.
How To Reach Shillong :
By Road: Bus, sumo are available any time from Assam State Capital, Guwahati.Airport: There is a airport at Umroi, about 35 km from Shillong. At present, Air India operates with ATR42 type of aircraft on this route.
Buses / Taxis are available from Shillong to Umroi and back.
